Job Description Job Description The Student Machinist provides
high school seniors and adult education trade students the
opportunity to gain hands-on machining processes experience in a
manufacturing environment. Under close supervision, the student
will support machining operations by performing foundational tasks
on manual mills, lathes, and grinders, while also learning basic
CNC functions such as loading and saving programs and basic
operation. This role develops core machining skills under close
supervision, contributing to part production, shop organization,
and safe work practices. SUMMARY: The Student Machinist is an
entry-level position responsible for assisting with machining
processes across manual mills, lathes, grinders, and basic CNC
operations. Duties include performing manual milling and turning
tasks, precision drilling and boring, wheel dressing, flat surface
grinding, and other shop-floor operations. The student machinist
also learns to load and save CNC programs through the DNC system
and gains experience in precision locating, thread cutting, and
part inspection. Working under full supervision, the Student
develops a working knowledge of machining principles, measurement
tools, setup practices, and safety protocols, laying the foundation
for progression into more advanced machinist roles. As a

or without notice. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: · Perform
basic grinding tasks including wheel dressing, operating a flat
surface grinder, and side grinding widths. · Perform manual milling
tasks such as side milling, face milling, drilling, precision hole
locating, and boring head operations. · Perform manual lathe tasks
including OD turning, center drilling, ID boring, thread cutting,
and the use of both 3-jaw and 4-jaw chucks. · Use precision
measuring tools to inspect parts for accuracy. · Operate CNC
machinery under direct supervision. · Load and save CNC programs
from/to the DNC system under supervision. · Change inserts and make
basic adjustments to support machining operations. · Follow all
shop safety protocols and procedures while working under close
supervision. · Complete accurate ERP transactions for material
usage, production reporting, and time tracking to support inventory
accuracy and cost control. · Meet or exceed established
productivity and quality standards that support departmental Key
Performance Indicators (KPIs), ensuring efficient and accurate job
performance. · Consistently apply safe work practices in accordance
with company policies to promote a zero lost time environment and
maintain a safe workplace. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
Applicants must be current high school seniors or adult education
students enrolled in an accredited vocational trade school or
equivalent hands-on experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical
demands described here are representative of those that must be met
by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of
this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee
will encounter repetitive movement tasks, requiring standing,
walking, stooping, bending, reaching, grasping, pushing, and
pulling grating material of various sizes and weights for long
periods of time. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 50
pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds, using proper
lifting techniques, help from another employee, or other available
resources such as lifting or moving equipment. The role also
requires the ability to take stairs, work around constantly moving
machinery, and exposure to weather elements. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The
work environment characteristics described here are representative
of those an employee encounters while performing the essential
functions of this job. The employee will be regularly working on
the production floor, requiring the use of Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE). Exposure to noise, dust, heat, and cold is
regular, as is exposure to machine and tool hazards requiring care
